Implant Planning & Surgical Guides
If you are overwhelmed with the many implant planning systems available on the market, this section will provide you with a quick overview of most of them and links to the related website. You could also review this brief comparison chart
• BioDental Model System from Biomedical Modeling Inc. BMI; provides dentists with an advanced implant planning and placement technology. It does not require an investment in time or money in computer software. The System includes a BioDental Model™ and a BioDental Model Custom Surgical Guide™.The BioDental Model System offers intuitive, hands-on implant planning and placement that works with all implant systems. The BioDental Model is an accurate photopolymer replica of the patient's mandible or maxilla based on CT scan data. The treatment plan on the BioDental Model is used to make the custom drill guides by BMI or using your own dental lab practices. using your general for precise implant placement and reduced chair time.

• SimPlant From Materialise offers software for precise preoperative planning from CT data. Using the software a plan is created for the ideal positioning of the implants, in both 2D and 3D, while taking into account both clinical and esthetical considerations. One fabricates a custom radiographic stent that is worn during the CT scan, to be used as a reference for planning in the software. You can take your surgical plan to the next step by using their SurgiGuides, which are unique drill guides that aid in placement, angulation and depth control when placing the implants. Their surgiGuides could be bone, Mucosa or teeth supported

•Nobel Biocare: Using the Teeth in an Hour system the patient is scanned with a prosthesis that has embedded gutta percha markers. The prosthesis is then scanned separately. Both scans are combined in Nobel Biocare’s software for treatment planning. Based on the plan a physical model is produced using Procera technology. The dental lab then uses this model to fabricate a mucosa supported surgical guide and a final restoration.

• Virtual Implant Placement (VIP) from Implant Logic System Ltd (ILS).VIP directly reads industry-standard DICOM images from nearly any modern CT scanner, including all the new in-office scanners. Go from scan to plan in just minutes, with no extra fees or time delays required for processing. VIP reformats the axial images to generate the normal panoramics and cross-sectionals, and provides all the tools you need including measurements, nerve highlighting, implant libraries, and 3D.

• ImplantMaster from I-Dent , allows you to plan implant placement on the 2D slices and panoramic reconstructions while having the custom fabricated radiological stent in place for guidance. The radiographic stent is fabricated with fedecual markers that allow them to fabricate custom drilling templates using CAD and stereolithography called an I-Guide . The I-Guides are mucosa supported guides for flapless surgery.

• Implant 3D from Media Lab allows you to perform 3D implant simulation using their software in 2D and 3D. You could also interface their software with stereolithography for fabrication of surgical guides.

• Implant Location System ILS from Tactile Technologies Inc , uses a mechanical bone sensing device, CT data, planning software and guide molding machine. After taking a CT scan the patient wears the bone sensing device which penetrates the gums and senses bone contours. The data from the CT images and the bone sensing device are combined in their planning software, where you plan the positions and angulation of the implants. The data is then sent to the guide molding device where it bends the different tubes to fit on a frame for flapless implant guidance.

•Implant Guidance System from DENX , uses a combination of treatment planning on the CT data and real time localization devices to guide you through the surgery. You first plan the surgery on the CT data using their software. Once you start your surgery the localization system allows you to monitor your trajectory, depth and angulation of your drills ensuring that you avoid critical structures and are targeting the quality bone.

• CAD Implant: After fabricating the patients prosthetic study, a patented registration cube is attached to it. The patient is then CT scanned with the prosthetic stent. The CT data is imported into the implant planning software for surgical planning. The completed computer case and the stent are then sent to CAD Implant, for the fabrication of the drill guide, and immediate load provisional if required. CAD Implant guides are mucosa supported guides for flapless surgery.
